Botshabelo, the orphanage in the documentary "Angels in the Dust"

"it is nice living here, 'cause we are safe"  - Lillian, 8 years old

Home to about 250 children, with 250 additional children coming from surrounding villages to get fed and educated.  Nobody who comes for help will be turned away. "We come together, we build together".

The work of Botshabelo orphanage, featured in the acclaimed documentary "Angels in the Dust" , is extraordinary and inspirational.

Botshabelo is an extraordinary village and school that provides shelter, food, and education to South African children.  Founded by Marion Cloete, a university-trained therapist, together with her husband Con and two daughters.  They fearlessly walked away from a privileged life in a wealthy Johannesburg suburb to build the orphanage desperately needed. The community includes an orphanage, school, village, medical clinic and organic farm. Using the traditional African village (and its inherent ubuntu values of cooperation and joint responsibility) as a model, the community works together to break the cycle of poverty and bring hope, safety, education and sustainable growth to all residents.
